Nintendo Street Team Photo

After the awesome Kotaku post by Stephen Totilo, people have been asking about seeing pictures of me with a TV on my chest. I looked through old photos and I've only been able to find one photo. I'm obviously the asian guy in the photo and my friend Pat is wearing the TV that day, I had 4 Gameboy Advances strapped to my belt. Oh and yes the guy we're posing with is indeed Coolio who absolutely sucks at video games.

I don't know how it happened, but this morning Bill Butler from Penny Arcade Expo sent me an email and said that a last minute booth spot opened up!
So Frobot will be heading to Boston this week for PAX East Coast! I don't have all the details yet but there will be a dedicated 10x10 booth for Frobot. We'll have 3 Wiis running Frobot and we'll also be giving out Frobot Paper-Foldables!
If you're going to PAX East, please stop by our booth and play the game! For all media people please send an email to bizdev@fugazo.com if you want to schedule an interview.

fan mail EXPLOSION!

After Fugazo's return from GDC, we've received a higher amount of fan mail than we usually would. Normally I wouldn't do this but a father and a young person sent me a beautiful poem I would like to share with everyone. If you enjoy it as much as I did, please learn it and recite it to your families. The poem is titled, RED SPROCKET HERO.

RED SPROCKET HERO

Frobot, Frobot! Warrior from space.
Conceived to save the robot race!

Robot of few words, but loves to dance.
Evil doers don't dare stand a chance!

Microshaft goons, they are on the run.
The war for peace is almost won!

The coolest robot since Optimus Prime,
Cuz only Frobot love females five at a time!

Bit Trip Runner and Gaijin Games thoughts!

So I got a chance to meet Alex Neuse of Gaijin Games last week at GDC and play Bit Trip Runner. Here are my thoughts:

It's by far the best game in the Bit Trip series to date. The simple low poly graphics look great in motion. The music ties really well with the platforming elements and if you can scan ahead you get a good sense of how the rhythm is going to play out. I also like that as you progress through the game you gain new skills like attacks and slides. There's also a bunch of great references to other Bit Trip games such as the Bit Trip Beat Paddle which is used as a shield in later levels.

On a more personal note, Alex is a really friendly guy and it was great to get some perspective from a WiiWare developer who's already been through the process a few times. I like how focused and small their game concepts are; I think it gives them a lot of room to polish and iterate.

I'm thinking for our next WiiWare title we build something a bit smaller in scope than Frobot. Personally, I'd like to try something in a 2d genre.

OMG - We met Reggie!

We just got back from GDC and we have a lot of stories to share. The highlight of the trip was meeting Reggie President of Nintendo of America!

We had 15 minutes to show Reggie and Cammie Frobot. We got a chance to show off a few levels and even go through a couple rounds of multiplaya!

We'll be posting more stories about GDC later this week. Stay tuned!

Frobot Developer Bios - Joel Casebeer!

So Nintendo recently asked Fugazo to supply bios and headshots for all the Frobot team members. So I'll start today with Joel Casebeer and we'll be adding additional bios soon!

Joel Casebeer, Artist, Story, Dialog
In the floral hills of Lynnwood, where the waters of Mill Creek ran swiftly through the barrows of Hilltop, Joel explored the woodlands atop his faithful steed, Cheyenne. One day, while riding through the valley of the Royals, he discovered a deep and ancient forest he had never been to before. It was here that he discovered the Sword of 3DMax and followed the path it showed him into the future!

Taking up the Sword of Max, Joel knew he would first need to hone his natural talents, so he travelled to the halls of DigiPen in the kingdom of the Red Mond to spend two years among the hermits who resided there. Soaking up the knowledge of his fore bearers he gathered up a band of like-minded outcasts and challenged the great giant, Abbot of Smithton. Like Newton's apple, Joel's opponent fell proving himself ready to take on the world.

Since then Joel has brought joy and hope to people everywhere, from the labor camps of Handheld to the Crystalline towers of Robot Super Brain. Now he resides beyond the Green Lake in the temple of Fugazo, where his destiny is written by his own hand.
